Want Longer Hair- Try Biotin

I, like many of you wanted a vitamin to help my hair grow, so I tried Biotin and I can say that it works. IT WORKS!!! Supplements are a controversial topic, so i have been putting off this post for a while. All i can do is share my personal experience, some may have had a different experience and that is okay, as we all respond to things differently.

I took Biotin for 3 months and I saw substantial growth, my hair grew 3 inches ( 7.5 cm) in 3 months. Ladies, even though you taking a supplement, you still have to be patient, supplements are not a magic potion.

You can find Biotin in a health store or Dischem and Clicks. How to find the right supplement? If you go to a store and they only have a Hair, Skin and Nail supplement, No Problem Ladies. Just look at the ingredients. If you do not see Biotin, check for MSM you will get the same results

A few personal Notes:

First – In South Africa I found that many supplements had MSM which gives the same results as Biotin so don’t stress.

Second – And this one is very important because it has to do with the dosage. I am not a medical practitioner, but in my experience I found that a dosage of 1000mcg worked for me. Anything less than that I did not see the results that I was looking for. I have even tried a dosage of 10,000mcg and I got the same results as 1000mcg. If you are not sure please check with your doctor.

Third – There are side effects, and they are different for each person, personally I did not experience any side effects (lucky me), but many people do. Side effects include, headaches, outbreak of pimples, stomach cramps and constipation.

Forth – Drink lots of water, you will feel thirsty and you will find that you will be going to the toilet a lot ( No. 1).

Fifth – I know many of you would like a specific brand that works, but it is all about the ingredients and the dosage in my experience, so find the cheapest brand with a dosage that is high enough for you. Celebs are promoting different brands, but it is all about what is inside those brands. Hope this helps, all we want is Biotin or MSM, these are the vitamins that aid hair growth not a brand.

Guys this is my experience with the vitamin Biotin and MSM. Sorry I do not have pics from when I started and the progress over the 3 months, I hope that by looking at my pics on Instagram you guys can see how far my hair has come.

Growth Aids for Longer Hair

I know there are many growth aids out there, today I am going to share with you some growth aids, that I used while I was transitioning as well as after I did the big chop. These growth aids can be used at any stage of your hair journey.

Castor Oil:I swear by this method. Apply it at least 3 times a week to your scalp and see growth within a month

Inversion Method:This method requires you to heat any type of oil (castor oil, olive oil, almond oil ect.) in the microwave and apply it to your scalp. Then massage your scalp for 5-10 minutes and finally invert your head, or place your head between your legs (upside down) for 4 minutes. Do this everyday for a week (7 days). It does work, I got half an inch or hair growth at the end of the week. Some say they get a full inch of hair growth by the end of day 7. This is my least favorite method, but it does work.

Green Tea:I started drinking green tea, just because I heard that it can increase hair growth, so far I have not seen significant growth, but when you healthy on the inside, it shows on the outside.

Finger detangling:So far so good – i find that using my fingers instead of a comb – prevents my hair from snapping hence helping to retain length. Lots of conditioner is needed. Some wash days this method takes forever and some less than 10 minutes. I divide my hair into as many sections as needed, apply conditioner and detangle.

Apple cider vinegar:This simple household product is amazing. I have read many posts and many dilute apple cider vinegar in different ways. I use 1 part apple cider vinegar with 2 parts water. I then pour it into a spray bottle and spritz it all over my hair. The apple cider vinegar is a natural conditioner and it also clarifies the scalp. Many use apple cider vinegar instead of shampoo. It leaves your hair clean and shiny. The best part is that you don’t even smell like vinegar, the smell disappears. I use apple cider vinegar every week.

Review: Jane Carter Solutions Curls on the Go! Elongating Gel

I am going to review The Jane Carter Solutions Curls on the Go! Elongating Gel in 5 categories. To watch the review click: Review: Jane Carter Curls to Go! Elongating Gel

Category 1: Packaging

The gel comes in a slim, pump bottle in pretty pink wrapping with a sunflower on it. On the packaging there is useful information such as; it is for curly and coily hair, it reduces shrinkage and controls frizz. For Packaging I give it a rating of 3.5 Curls.

Category 2: Price

I bought the gel for $10.99 from the Naturally Curly online store. I think it is expensive when you consider the size of the gel. For Price I give it a rating of 4 Curls.

Category 3: Application

You pump out the gel. It is clear in colour, it is not too thick and not too runny. It has a strong sweet smell. Divide your hair into sections and apply the gel in small sections. It dissolves into your hair and it leaves your hair shiny. For Application I give it a rating of 4 Curls.

Category 4: Quality & Size

The size of the gel is 8fl or 237ml. I think that it is too small for a hair gel. As naturals we use a lot of gel, so for me it is too small. For quality, it is made of good quality product. For Quality & Size I give it a rating of 3.5 Curls.

Category 5: Results

The gel gave my curls shine and it did hold my Wash and Go. I was happy with the result. It is not a must have product but it is something that I would re-purchase. For Results I give it a rating of 4 Curls.

Why use a Leave-in Conditioner?

We all use a conditioner right? Adding a leave-in conditioner to my hair care regime, has helped the health, strength and length of my hair.

Click the link to see a comparison between two leave-in conditioners. In the video you will see the application, results and the prices of both leave-in conditioners.

Comparing 2 Leave in Conditioners

So what is a leave-in conditioner and why add it to your hair care regime? Leave-in conditioners help to nourish and moisturize the hair, prevent breakage and split ends, (i think all of us would like to prevent split ends). It also softens the hair, tames frizz, (hooray for a solution to frizz) and it aids in detangling. We all know curly hair can be a nightmare to detangle.

Many leave-in conditioners have water as one of their first ingredients. Water is great for replenishing dry hair with moisture. What if you find a leave-in and water is not the first ingredient? No problem at all, leave-ins focus on sealing in moisture while ensuring easier detangling and smoothness. Both of them can also aid in prevention of damage/breakage, and strength.

In a nutshell using a leave-in conditioner will help add moisture to your hair, if your hair has been feeling really dry. Secondly, leave-ins help with strengthening your hair. If your hair feels weak and it is breaking, a leave-in is definitely a solution. And lastly, it adds shine and extra curl definition . Your curls will be popping…With such amazing benefits I hope you are using a leave-in conditioner and I hope you make it a staple in your hair care regime.

Hair Fall-Black Tea Rinse

Every morning we brush our hair and there is hair everywhere, in the bathroom sink/basin and on the floor. So I had to ask the question ??? how much is too much hair in the bathroom sink/basin or on the floor? So I went to Google and found out that we lose about 100 strands a day. That was helpful but I personally don’t have time to count the strands. So then I did more research and found out that if you have strands that are shorter than your hair length laying in the bathroom sink/basin or on the floor then that is probably hair that has broken off. You can go a step further and pick up a strand and if you see a little white bulb at the end of a strand then you can safely say that, that was the end of that hair strands life. The little peaces of hair unfortunately signify that hair has broken off during the combing process.

Here is a cost effective way to help if you feel that too much hair is falling out on a daily basis:

Black Tea:The caffeine found in black tea helps to decrease a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone aka DHT. This hormone is found in the scalp and aids hair loss. Black tea when used once a month can aid hair growth and thickens hair.

Back Tea Rinse: Add 3 teabags of your choice to 6 cups of boiling water and allow to cool. You can choose to wash your hair as normal and after shampooing and deep conditioning pour the tea rinse over your hair and let it sit for as little as 2 minutes or you can wrap your hair in a towel and let the tea sit for an hour. Some people rinse the the tea out with cool water because the caffeine can make the hair hard at times. Some people don’t have this problem so they leave the tea in. Some people use the tea rinse before they shampoo their hair. This is totally up to you.

Results:  I saw immediate results. The next day there was less hair in the bathroom sink/basin.

I drink green tea, and i use it as my tea rinse as well. You can any tea of your choice.

Eco Styler Gel Review

I have read and heard great things about Eco-Styler Gel, and with all the hype around it, I had to try it.

I used the Eco-Styler Argon Oil Styler. The addition of Argon oil did leave my hair soft.

1) You do not need to use much product.

2) Gives your hair great volume.

3) Keeps hair soft and fluffy.

1) It only gave me day 2 hair.

2) It does not mix well with all leave-in-conditioners (leaves a white cast).

3) Not easily available in South African stores.

I purchased mine from an online store in SA, called African-Flair (Not sure if they are still open). They delivered within 3 days.

Overall i would recommend it, but it isn’t the best gel that I have tried. And it isn’t in my top 5 best gels.

Best Hair Investment Ever!

In my opinion the best hair purchase a girl can make is a satin or silk pillow case. It has revolutionized the concept of sleep for me and my hair. No more waking up looking like Simba the lion. I wake up and my hair is layed. The smooth surface from the satin/silk pillow case does not cause any tension or static between your hair and the fibers from the pillowcase while sleeping. Your kinky, curly, coily hair glides across the smooth surface while you sleep, retaining moisture and reducing breakage. It is a must for us curly girls. Sleeping with a satin/silk bonnet or scarf will work just as good. On my paranoid days I sleep with a silk scarf on a satin pillow case lol… But over time and as your journey to healthy hair continues this little addition will make the world of difference and you will definitely see the excellent results. No more looking in the mirror in the morning and not recognizing the person looking back at you in the mirror.

I purchased my satin pillow cases at Mr. Price Home, I can’t remember the price, but whatever it was it was worth every penny.

GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment

GlamGlow products are luxurious and they are not cheap. For me they are a luxury product, something I will treat myself too. It is a really good mask, that deep cleans and leaves your skin with a youthful glow.

Application: Apply a skin layer onto clean skin. Wait 10-15 minutes until the mask dries. Rinse off with cool water.

Ingredients: This mask contains lots of ingredients, it isn’t 100 natural or vegan free. The first ingredient is water, which is good. Having water as the first product is a good sign in skin products.

Packaging: The packaging is silver and white, very simple yet glamours. The clay mask is black/grey in colour.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

This is a purifying mask that refines and revives your skin. Leaving it clean and revealing a youthful glow.

Application: Apply a thin layer all over your skin using a face brush or make up brush. Leave the mask on until it tries. You will see pieces of the green tea leaves. Rinse off with warm water once the mask has dried.

Ingredients: It contains charcoal, bamboo, green tea leaves and organic tea tree oil. It has NO Paraffin,  NO Silicones, NO Mineral oil and No Parabens. It is also 💯 vegan.

Packaging: The packaging is simple, the bottle is dark brown with a green label. The packaging is simple and straight to the point.

This is honestly one of my favorite masks, if you have black heads, this mask will deep clean your skin removing black heads and keep them at bay.
